Homesick

I am homesick for a place I’ve never been.
A place where shooting stars are constant
but wishes aren’t required.

A place where hate and racism do not exist
no matter what your skin color is or your
pronouns are. And the only synonym for
Democracy is unity.

I’m longing for havens that have homes and
opened door policies for anyone in need. And
I’m wishing we lived in a time when it didn’t
feel like the world was burning in hell.

I know this paradise exists. But I must die
in order to see it. Because only in heaven
and never here on earth in the flesh, is any
of this really possible.

And maybe it’s naive and certainly cliche.
But I continue to wish and pray for a place
I’ve never been. I am homesick, for World
Peace.
